Oscar Gerardo Ornelas | Associate
Oscar Ornelas studied law at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) where he obtained his law degree with honors. Oscar Ornelas has been part of the VTZ team since May 2023. Prior to joining VTZ, our associate worked as an intern in a foreign trade firm specialized in trade remedies. He also serves as Head of the Legal and Transparency Department of a Civil Association since November 2021 where he provides support to young people in vulnerable situations.
Professional Experience
Antidumping Investigations
Oscar Ornelas supports the VTZ team in trade remedies proceedings. Specifically, he is in charge of preparing responses to questionnaries and requests for information, as well as the preparation of translations, public and confidential versions in antidumping investigations before the Ministry of Economy.
International Trade and Litigation
Oscar Ornelas also assists companies in researching tariffs, regulations, and non-tariff restrictions. In addition, he is responsible for the drafting of direct amparo, indirect amparo, and administrative litigation lawsuits. In addition, Oscar Ornelas is responsible for drafting amparo appeals. Unlike many lawyers, our young associate can sign and file amparos, promotions, lawsuits and appeals online before Mexican courts.
Academic Experience
Licenciatura en Derecho
He obtained his law degree with honors with the thesis ''The rapid response mechanism of policies related to investments coming from the state policy in the electricity sector and its implementation in the USMCA''. He has also contributed to research on public international law, international liability, investment arbitration, amparo and international environmental law at the Instituto de Investigaciones Jurídicas.
